March 2021 News

Spring is on it's way! A few notes as we move into March:

  • Reminder: our next FREE produce pickup is Monday March 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the SCR entryway (the first floor of the Deaconess-Krafft Center). As always, face masks & social distancing required. Bring a bag, cart, walker, or wagon if you can!
  • Join other local seniors from the comfort of your home to learn new skills while meeting new people and having fun! Broadway School of Music & the Arts is offering a FREE weekly collage class, and a FREE weekly community choir group. All supplies are provided. Registration deadline is March 8 and classes start March 15 - read here for more info! We would love to have you join us.
  • All Ohioans 65 and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Call SCR at 216-749-5367 (weekdays between 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.), and we can help schedule vaccine, and/or a ride to & from your appointment. The vaccine is one important tool that can help slow the spread of the coronavirus - talk to your doctor about the safety, effectiveness, benefits and risks of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • We offer a "takeout" lunch each weekday between 11 a.m. - 12 noon - check the March Menu for the latest options.

February 2021 News

February 2021

Our next FREE produce pickup is Monday Feb 1 at 10:30 a.m. in the SCR entryway. Face masks & social distancing required. This month's box should include fruits & vegetables, plus chicken, cheese, and yogurt. Get the latest info from SCR, including this month's menu, in our February 2021 Newsletter.

SCR can help you navigate the COVID-19 vaccine process - call us at 216-749-5367. We can help schedule a vaccine, and/or schedule a ride to & from your appointment (see below for more vaccine info).

COVID-19 Vaccine Info: 1/27/2021

The Ohio COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan is still a work in progress, and initial supplies are still very limited, but starting Feb. 1, Ohioans 70 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine, and those 65+ are eligible Feb 8.

You will need an appointment to get a vaccine. You can use the state’s online vaccine location tool (Vaccine.Coronavirus.Ohio.Gov/) to find a vaccine provider, then contact a provider to schedule an appointment. Please note, the provider list is subject to change and vaccine supply is still limited.

We are happy to help with this process! Please call SCR at 216-749-5367, and we will try to get you added to a list, schedule an appointment, and/or schedule a ride to & from your vaccine appointment (Note: 211 Lyft service is no longer available).

The COVID-19 vaccine is free for people with Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and for those with no insurance. Vaccine providers can bill insurance companies for the cost, so bring your Medicare / insurance card with you when you get vaccinated.

The COVID-19 vaccines that are currently available require two doses. You’ll need a follow-up dose a few weeks after the first dose. You should receive a card at your first visit that includes where and when you were first vaccinated and which vaccination you received; providers should schedule your second dose at your first appointment.

The vaccine is just one tool that can help slow the spread of the coronavirus. It will take your body a few weeks to build up immunity after the second vaccine dose, and the CDC continues to recommend preventive measures such as face masks and social distancing for at least several more months.

Talk to your doctor about the safety, effectiveness, benefits and risks of the COVID-19 vaccine. Older adults, especially those with underlying medical conditions, are at increased risk for hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

This info is all subject to change as this plan continues to be a work in progress! We will try to keep you up to date as details change.

Happy Thanksgiving

SCR PROGRAMMING UPDATE: 10/26/20

While we had hoped to re-open our center this month, due to the trend of increased COVID-19 cases in our county, we will unfortunately remain closed for the immediate future. We hope to host more outdoor social activities, weather permitting, in the coming weeks. As we have been doing since March, we will continue to offer limited transportation, home-delivered meals, and still offer a takeout meal each weekday between 11 a.m. - 12 noon.

Check the updated November menu here (please note: we will be closed Nov 11, Nov 26, and Nov 27.)

Don't forget: our next Free Produce / Dairy Giveway is Monday November 2 @ 10 a.m. at the SCR front entrance. Bring a cart, walker, or wagon! Face masks & social distancing required.

SCR Update: 10/19/20

September 2020 News

  • Since closing our center in March, we have still been distributing over 200 meals per day throughout our community, along with monthly fresh produce boxes, emergency shelf-stable food boxes, hygiene supplies and activity bags to help combat boredom. We have also still been providing rides to important medical appointments and shopping trips. But we miss seeing our clients every day! We hope to re-open -- in a very limited capacity -- sometime in October. Please stay tuned for more information!
  • While we will not always be following this schedule, you can see the most recent menu here: September 2020 Menu

SCR Programming Update: 4/27/2020

April 27, 2020

We continue to follow the recommendations of state public health officials to limit the spread of COVID-19.  Our center is still closed, and we have adjusted our programming as follows:

All activities and daily congregate meal service at SCR are suspended. A hot meal, box lunch, or frozen meal is available for all congregate meal participants for pickup at SCR between 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon, Monday through Friday. Home-delivered meal service will continue. While we will NOT always be following this schedule, you can see the most recent menu here: May 2020 Menu

Limited SCR transportation is available.  Shopping trips will continue;  rides to & from medical appointments will be referred to Lyft for no-cost transportation - contact us for information about how to access this service. Call SCR for more info: 216-749-5367.

We miss you and look forward to when we can all be together again! Stay safe.
