SCR Programming Update: 3/31/2020

  • We are sad to announce that our planned 35th Annual Senior Olympics will unfortunately be cancelled. In addition, all regular activities are also cancelled.
  • Throughout the month of April, a daily lunch (hot meal, box lunch, or frozen meal) will be available for our congregate meal participants for pickup at SCR, Monday – Friday between 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon. SCR does NOT provide transportation into the center for this pickup.
  • Home-delivered meal service will continue without disruption. We will continue to be in communication with our volunteers about safety procedures.
  • Very limited SCR transportation is available. Shopping trips will continue (normal shopping schedules are adjusted). Rides to & from medical appointments will be referred to Lyft for no-cost transportation; contact us if you need information about how to access this service (which is free for SCR clients). Call SCR for more info: 216-749-5367.

Information is continually evolving and we will be watching carefully for updated guidelines from health officials. We hope that these changes will cause the least amount of disruption while being mindful of everyone’s safety. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding these decisions. Thank you, and stay safe!

SCR Programming Changes: 3/13/2020

We continue to follow the guidance and recommendations of local and state public health partners to limit public gatherings and safeguard people over 60 to exposure to COVID-19. After careful consideration regarding virus concerns, we have made decisions to adjust our programming starting Monday March 16 as follows:

  • All activities both at SCR and out of the center are cancelled until Monday April 13 (dates subject to change).
  • We will be suspending daily congregate meal service at SCR until Monday April 13 (dates subject to change). A box lunch or frozen meal will be available for all congregate meal participants for pickup at SCR between 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon, Monday through Friday. SCR will not be providing transportation into the center for this pickup.
  • Home-delivered meal service will continue without disruption. We will continue to be in communication with our volunteers about safety procedures.
  • Limited SCR transportation will be available. Shopping trips will continue (normal shopping schedule may be adjusted). Rides to & from medical appointments will be referred to Lyft for no-cost transportation; contact us if you need information about how to access this service (free for SCR clients). No new medical appointment transportation will be scheduled until Monday April 13 (dates subject to change). Call SCR for more info: 216-749-5367.

These changes will be re-evaluated as more information becomes available. As we have all experienced, information is continually evolving and we will be watching carefully for updated guidelines from health officials.

We know these decisions impact many people in a variety of ways. We hope that these changes will cause the least amount of disruption while being mindful of everyone’s safety. We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding these decisions.

As always, we are urging both clients and staff:

  • If you feel ill, please stay home. Contact your health provider by phone for instructions before seeking in-person care for flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath).
  • Clean your hands regularly: Wash your hands with soap & water, and dry thoroughly.
  • Use alcohol-based handrub if you don’t have immediate access to soap and water.
Thank you, and stay safe!

February 2020 News

Feb 2020

We are looking forward to February fun with Old Brooklyn seniors! We have lots of great things planned at SCR this month: join us to meet new friends, try something new, or explore our neighborhood. Read the newest edition of our "Seniors in Touch" newsletter to see what's happening.

Also -- Several of our SCR clients took part in a 12-week long watercolor class through a special partnership with Broadway School of the Arts. We would like to invite you to an Artists’ Reception to celebrate their work on Wednesday February 19 @ 1 p.m. in the Rammelkamp Atrium on the MetroHealth Main Campus. This group created some really beautiful pieces, and had so much fun doing it!  The exhibit will be on display through March 5.

Giving Tuesday

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, today is Giving Tuesday. This special day encourages each of us to set aside our shopping lists, and GIVE instead. Please consider making a donation to Senior Citizen Resources, and help us meet our mission to keep our seniors independent and engaged in the community. Contributions can be made via Pay Pal here on our website (yellow "Donate" button). Your support is truly appreciated!

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all those that attended our Night at the Races fundraiser! We had a great time while also raising funds to support our important services for seniors in the Old Brooklyn area. We are so grateful for all that attended, volunteered, donated, and supported the very FUN night! THANK YOU!

SCR Featured on WKYC

Hardworking volunteers meet at SCR twice a week and use plastic grocery bags to crochet waterproof, lightweight mats for the homeless.  SCR's mat making group was featured on “We The People” last week - watch the segment here! “We The People” is WKYC’S Channel 3 community engagement show with Leon Bibb & Tiffany Tarpley, where we inspire viewers to get out in our community and get involved.
